Vericept DLP is Dead…
Monday, September 14, 2009 10:58In case you hadn’t heard, Vericept, one of the founding DLP vendors, has been acquired by a company called Trustwave. The acquisition marks the final consolidation play of an enterprise DLP vendor. Most significantly, however, is that I expect this marks the death of Vericept as a DLP solution.
Trustwave has stated pretty clearly that they intend to use this as a compliance offering. Their nod to continued support of the Vericept product is typical acquisition BS. It’s unlikely Trustwave will expend the innovation and engineering required to keep Vericept’s DLP technology alive, and mature it to the extend that is needed. And why would they - such effort would not fit their business model.
You can read more about the acquisition here. Terms of the acquisiton have not been released… I would not expect that Vericept went for much given the company’s decline over the last 12-24 months.
p.s… I am officially removing Vericept from my list of DLP vendors.

Since you are taking Vericept off we think it would be a good time to add CA on. Since the acquisition of Orchestria, CA has made significant progress and is about to launch another major version!

CA DLP Team - I’ll admit that I’m a hesitant to add CA to the list of DLP vendors because the old Orchestria product - as I knew it and was reported by the analysts - was severely lacking in enterprise DLP functionality (i.e., comprehensive coverage of data at rest, in motion, and in use with deep content inspection… yada, yada, yada). That said, I’ll temporarily give you the benefit of the doubt and go ahead and add you w/ a footnote and we’ll see what kinds of investment you’ve made on the engineering side to beef up the product. No long term promises though. The list is meant for enterprise DLP vendors only, so it’s up to you.
